The 2023-24 WA Premier Cricket Season kicked off with a bang for the junior teams of Mount Lawley District Cricket Club, as they faced formidable opponents and emerged victorious in thrilling encounters. It was a season opening weekend filled with nail-biting moments, strong team efforts, and remarkable performances.
In the Under 15's and 17's matches on Saturday, our young Hawks squared off against tough Joondalup teams. The battles were intense and went right down to the wire, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats. In a display of resilience and determination, both teams secured hard-fought wins. The U15’s successfully defending a score of 9-75, while the U17’s held their nerve to finish at 6-113. These victories showcased the unwavering spirit of our young cricketers.
The Under 13's and 14's teams faced Scarborough in their opening matches on Sunday. The U13’s dismantled the opposition, restricting them to just 78 runs, before delivering a dominant performance by posting a commanding score of 4-149. A convincing win that is bound to set the tone for the season. Meanwhile, the U14’s engaged in a thrilling contest that was not decided until the final over. With nerves of steel, they clinched victory from the second-last ball of the match, in a further display of our Junior Hawks great determination and teamwork.
This spectacular clean sweep of wins in Round 1 of the WA Premier Cricket for our Mt Lawley Hawks junior teams is most definitely a record in this modern era of our club. So much so that news of this success has reached our Director of Junior Cricket (currently on leave for a bit of R&R) all the way on the other side of the globe, who sent a congratulatory message to all involved.
These wins for our Junior Hawks not only brought joy to the players, parents, club and supporters but also sends a strong message to the rest of the competition. The Mount Lawley District Cricket Club is ready to make its mark in the 2023-24 season, with the junior teams leading the charge.
As we celebrate this memorable start to the season, we look forward to more thrilling matches, remarkable performances, and the continued success of our young cricketers.
